5 Mistakes I Have Seen For Wedding Planning
As a photographer who loves heart-led moments and photos, here are some mistakes that I feel are rarely mentioned.
1. Overloading the Schedule
Mistake: Trying to fit too many activities into the wedding day can lead to stressful and a rushed feeling, leaving little time to enjoy the moments.
Tip: Prioritize key events and allow for some breathing room between them to relax and allow natural moments to breathe and happen. Don’t plan for too many locations to visit as that will result in more time traveling in the car.
2. Neglecting the Timeline for Photos
Mistake: Not allocating enough time for photos or scheduling them at the wrong time of day, leading to rushed sessions which in turn can be more ‘posey’ and stressful.
Tip: Allocate at least a half-hour window so as to not feel rushed during the session.
3. Trying to Please Everyone
Mistake: Attempting to accommodate everyone’s opinions and preferences can lead to a wedding that doesn’t truly reflect your personality or desires.
Tip: Use the 80-20 rule - 80% that’s what you want, 20% on your traditions or families wishes.
4. Leaving the Vows And Letters Too Late
Mistake: Writing or practicing vows at the last minute can result in rushed or impersonal vows that don’t fully express your feelings.
Tip: Crafting your vows thoughtfully takes patience and time, but it’s worth it because it makes a great keepsake in your home after the wedding.
5. Having the Wrong Mindset
Mistake: Focusing too much on the details or worrying about things going wrong can prevent you from truly enjoying your wedding day.
Tip: A wedding isn’t supposed to go perfectly, it’s supposed to go authentically.
